Okay, so this is a continuation of my previous blog post about my recent road trip.
Day 3
San Francisco, CA to Bakersfield, CA
Stop 1: Crissy Field, San Fancisco
After eating breakfast, we headed up towards San Francisco. We went straight to Crissy Field to see the views of the Golden Gate Bridge, which was on the top of my friend, S’s list.
We could have seen it up close and personal from the bridge itself, but I think we preferred this because it was less crowded here.
There is a little hike here where you can go up and get better views. I only went up a little bit.
Stop 2: Cod Mother’s Fish & Chips on Fisherman’s Wharf
This was also another taco place that I had once before. I remember loving it then, not only the food but also the customer service.
Naturally, I had to have these baja fish tacos again. I feel like they changed them up a bit from the last time I had them, less fish in the tacos. However, they were still good and I would recommend having them!
Stop 3: 16th Avenue Tiled Steps
These steps were on the top of my list of places to see in SF. They are in a residential area and it wasn’t that crowded here either.
We went all the way to the top of the steps and took in some gorgeous views.
Stop 4: Twin Peaks
I have seen a million photos of this place on my instagram so I knew I HAD to go here. It was quite windy and chilly up here. The views were phenomenal! The city kind of looked like it was covered in snow. lol…
We stayed up here only for a little while and decided that afterwards it would be a good time to get some dessert.
Stop 5: Ice Cream
When we came back down the peaks, it was warm enough to enjoy some ice cream and found Bi-Rite Creamery and Bakeshop.
Stop 6: Bakersfield, CA
And this is where the crazy part came in. We were headed to Las Vegas which is an 8 hour drive from SF. And since we did not want to do that, we broke it up into 4 hour increments. We spent the night at another Vegabond Inn but this time in Bakersfield, ca. This location was a lot better!
Day 5
Bakersfield,CA to Las Vegas, NV
Stop 1: Seven Magic Mountain
I was going to Vegas for a one day and night for a wedding reception so I had no interest in walking the strip or doing anything in particular there. But since we were going, I knew I wanted to check out Seven Magic Mountains! This was an art installation in the middle of the desert! It isn’t too off route so it was the perfect stop before checking into our hotel in Vegas.
It was hot and we were there for maybe 15 minutes or so and was really crowded so it was hard to take photos without people in them! This installation is due to end by the end of the year so if you want to see it you better get out there quick!
Stop 2: Hotel Check-in at Oasis at Gold Spike
We stayed at the Oasis at Gold Spike and got a pretty good deal. It’s located just at the north end of the strip. Our room was comfortable and clean enough but the hallway smelled real bad! lol…
Stop 3: Dinner at Old Homestead in Caesar’s Palace
After the wedding reception, I still had room for dinner. We wanted to go to a buffet and decided on the one at Caesar’s Palace. Big mistake, it was an hour long wait! And for some reason we decided that was too long and instead decided to go get steak at Old Homestead. Another mistake. The steak was terrible! I’ve had better steak at Outback!! The chicken, however, was delicious and a lot better than the steak. Also, the bread was good!
I didn’t take any photos because I was too disappointed.
I did, however, take photos of a bit of the strip that was near the Casino.
Day 6
Las Vegas, NV to Los Angeles, CA
Stop One: Peggy Sue’s Diner
In the morning, we got up and decided to head out early and get breakfast from Peggy Sue’s Diner. This apparently is a tourist attraction that I had never known about. It’s a fun quirky restaurant with diner food.
I got French Toast with a side of hash-browns which were the highlight of this meal. They were nice and crispy from the outside and soft and delicious from the inside.
After the meal, I headed outside to the little dinosaur park outside. No one was out there except me because it was hot lol…
Then we headed back to LA…well more like Chino which is known as Inland Empire.
Day 7 & 8
When we got back to LA, I only had two more days before I had to head back. During this time, I hung out with as many friends as possible and ate as much as I could!
Taco Mesa
I used to eat here whenever I visited friends in The OC. They’ve changed the restaurant to look more hipster than authentic so I don’t know how I felt about that. But the food was still nice and fresh.
I had a steak taco and also tried their fish tacos because I couldn’t help myself!
House of Shabu Shabu
The next day, we had Shabu Shabu which was a new experience for me. It was a great experience! I’m not big on Asian food except for Thai and Korean BBQ but this also won me over!
I’d suggest going here and getting the meat that’s cut from the belly (Beef Belly)! We ordered the spicy garlic broth and two to three different kinds of meats to dip in the broth and eat. We also ordered some sushi and wings…because that was also an option. Everything was delicious!
Laguna Beach
I had to go to this beach as it’s my favorite in the area. We made it here after dinner, just in time for the sunset!
We ended my last night there on a sweet note with a cupcake from Sprinkles.
The next morning, it was time to head to the airport and go back home! boohoo..
What did you think of my trip? Do you think I packed in too much with the amount of time I had or would you have done the same??
