Hello everyone! I am back after neglecting my blog for several months. It’s been a rough year for everyone and getting motivation to do things like this has been hard.
I have been cooking a lot and did take some local trips which I’d like to share in the upcoming weeks/months.
One of these trips was to Shenandoah National Park. It’s a great park to see in the fall. However, it is super crowded and lines to enter can be long. We managed to avoid that and ended up here the weekend after the peak foliage. Regardless, it was beautiful!
This park runs along the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia and has one main road that goes through it. This road is called the Skyline Drive. Once you enter, you can choose to stop at overlooks or hike the many trails around the route.
Entrance
We entered through Thornton Gap of the park and drove south towards Rose River Falls.
Overlooks
Our first stop.
I joked on my instagram that this was the most thrilling thing I did this year, take a photo in front of the tunnel like that. We had to capture it quick when there were no cars. It took maybe 3 tries to get it right.
I thinks this was my favorite overlook. Probably because of the way the sun was shining at the time we were here.
Hiking
After stopping at a few overlooks and doing a picnic at one of the picnic areas, we headed to our last stop, Rose River falls. In order to get to the falls, you have to do a bit of hiking. The trail leading to the fall was super easy. We were with 3 kids and they were fine walking it.
Once you get here, you can do a loop that goes up to the highest part of the falls which can be challenging since it’s all incline and can be muddy and rocky at places. We went half way up and then came back down because it was really crowded and at this point the nieces were also getting tired.
These falls ended up being better than I was expecting and would recommend checking them out.
We only did a small portion of the park but definitely will be returning to see more of it in different seasons.
