FALLING WATER!!!! I studied about this architectural masterpiece by Frank Lloyd Wright in school and ever since, I knew I HAD to check it out in person!
In planning it all out, my friend, M (my fellow architect friend and appreciator of everything design) and I debated whether it would be a day trip or a weekend trip. We ultimately decided that a weekend trip would be perfect becauseย we wanted to get away and find a cool cabin near it and just relax.
However, it was hard to find a good place near Mill Run that was decently priced so I had the genius idea to look up places in West Virginia which didn’t seem too far from Mill Run, PA. It actually wasn’t that practical at all lol but it all worked out for us.
The cottage we got via airbnb was 1 hour and 45 minutes from Harrisburg and about 1 hour and 45 minutes from Falling Water. To be honest, the driving didn’t bother us because we really enjoyed our little cottage and I’d definitely go back.
DAY 1:
We checked into theย cottage in Berkeley Springs, WV around 7:30 p.m.
After we were acquainted with the place, we went straight to dinner. We found a place in the heart of the city called, The Naked Olive Lounge. It was pretty packed and we were lucky we got seated quickly.
We ordered Angus sliders andย “Locs with a Schmear” which are mini bagel crips with a schmear of dill olive oil cream cheese topped with tomato and salmon. I’m not a fan of raw tasting fish, but this was really good! It was surprisingly better than the burgers.
For dessert, we wanted a salted caramel cake, but that was sold out and settled for the brownie which was okay.
DAY 2:
BREAKFAST
In the morning we got up, got ready and I made us breakfast which we enjoyed on the dinning room table. I wanted to sit outside but it was still a little too chilly out. Soon after, it was time for us to start heading to Mill Run.
FALLING WATER
We got there an hour earlier than we were supposed to and they accommodated us and we joined an earlier tour.
Pro tip: book a tour in advance.
It was an amazing experience being somewhere that you have seen a million photos of. My old drafting professor was a huge fan of Mr. Wright and he used to show us lots of his work, Falling Water bring one of them.
It was surreal I enjoyed every bit of it!ย
Unfortunately, you are not allowed to take photos inside. But after the tour, you get a chance to look at it from the iconic spot. Here, you really get an idea of how magnificent this piece of architecture truly is.
Wright took nature into consideration when designing this house. He basically created the space around it. For example, in one area of the house, you can see he used a boulder that was already present and constructed a space around it.
A house atop a waterfall? What more could one want? I kept imagining having my morning cup of chai in so many different places. lol
LUNCH
After we were done with the tour, we decided to head out for lunch. We went to Falls Market after a lot of recommendations. It did not disappoint! At least my roast beef melt didn’t. My friend’s chicken sandwich wasn’t that great.
(drool)
(tots were delicious!)
The market also served hand churned ice cream, which of course we had to try. It was good but not as good as the ice cream I had the following day…
We took some to-go and walked over to the state park across the street and enjoyed it with these views.ย
EVENING STROLL IN BERKELEY SPRINGS STATE PARK
After lunch, we headed back to Berkeley Springs. We wanted to walk around the small downtown area and see the park that I kept reading about.
We visited some thrift shops and some local artist stores.
Then we strolled into the famous park in the town. It’s main attraction is the historic mineral spa. It also houses George Washington’s first ever bathtub. Lol…
Then we went back to our cottage to enjoy the rest of the evening by our little pond and do a bonfire. While M got the fire ready, I got our dinner ready. I made nachos. It was the perfect meal for the evening!
When the fire burned out we came in and had dinner in front of the fireplace.
DAY 3
BREAKFAST
On our last morning, the weather was gorgeous and warm enough to sit outside on the deck and enjoy breakfast. I can’t believe I didn’t bring a book to read! But it’s okay because we literally just sat there for a good hour or two before deciding it was time for us to get up, tidy up the place and head out.

PROSPECT PEAK:
We had one more stop before really heading back home. There was an overlook point nearby that had views of Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania. So, naturally, we headed there but stopped at a coffee shop (The Black Dog Coffee Shop) on the way. M grabbed a coffee to-go and I got a life changing organic strawberry ice cream!! SO GOOD!

LUNCH
Have you noticed how most of the trip has revolved around food? Or really anything that I do?
We drove an hour and were ready for lunch….I quickly looked up spots where we could stop and came across a Peruvian restaurant, Inka Kitchen. I’m ever ready for South American flavors!
The service here was great and I’d give the food a 3.5/5. Next time I’d try something else though. I don’t think I should have gotten tacos becuase they were alright. lol… However, the pupusas were on point and so was the decor! ๐ย
Well there you have it, the perfect weekend, full of food and beautiful places! ๐
