After being in Chiapas for about five days, we headed out to explore Mexico City. This was a total last minute plan as our original plan to see Puebla got changed because our flight was cancelled. It was a bit annoying but Mexico City ended up being more charming than what I was expecting.
Lunch at Belmondo
Since we got in really late the night before (3 a.m.), we started the next day a little later than we hoped and went straight to lunch.
After having Mexican food every day for nearly a week, I needed a burger. And this burger did not disappoint! It was very juicy and delicious.
The restaurant also had a choice of bowls that were really fresh and tasty.
To be a little different (I usually order water), I got a matcha mint lemonade which was surprisingly good and refreshing!
Historic Center of Mexico City
After lunch, our stop was the Historic Center where we admired the baroque style Mexico City Cathedral.
We didn’t spend that long here as we wanted to also see Casa Azul before it closed.
Frida Kahlo Casa Azul
The Frida Kahlo Museum and house were at the top of my list to see in Mexico City. We made it just before closing time and had enough time to tour.
The striking blue color of the house made for some gorgeous photos.
Unfortunately, we weren’t allowed to take photos of the inside (you have to pay extra for that). Nonetheless, it was a great experience. They had displayed the house as she had left it and there were descriptions of part of her life in the museum which were very interesting to read.
Walking around Coyoacan neighborhood
After the museum, we walked over to the very beautiful Coyoacan neighborhood. It was full of street art and architecture.
Dinner at Lardo
Soon after, it was time for dinner. My friend found a restaurant, Lardo for us to dine at.
The restaurant was very chic and had a wait time of 45 minutes when we got there.
I ordered lamb chops which were tender and juicy. Most of the dishes were good. However, we did have one or two that were a bit lacking (onion pizza and a Mediterranean wrap dish).
Their menu is seasonal which means the food is going to be fresh. Overall good experience!
Churros from Churreria El Moro
We ended the night with Churros. The delicious pieces of fried dough were covered in sugar and came with a whole cup of chocolate sauce. It was the perfect way to end our short trip to Mexico City.
The food and art scene in Mexico City is huge and I know that I need to come back to fully enjoy it!
