Chiapas, Mexico Part II

So now that you know all the amazing places you can dine at while visiting Chiapas Mexico (specifically San Cristobal de las Casas), it’s time to share all the beautiful places we saw during our visit.

Scenes Around San Cristobal de las Casas

Things to see in Chiapas, Mexico

First of all, the city itself is so beautiful! Cobblestone roads and colorful architecture adorned in florals and greens. A very picturesque city situated in the mountains.

It was a lot more artsy than I was expecting!

What a neat storefront idea, hanging wine bottles!

Every corner was so beautiful that standing around in one spot waiting for the rain to stop (that came out of no where) was not even that annoying (for the most part) because there was always something to see and look at.

Guadalupe Church

On our last day of the Mission, we walked up 70+ steps to this church to see the view from the top.

Market

Then there was a market by the beautiful Iglesia de Santo Domingo that we came to a few times to buy jewelry and other souvenirs.

Since this region is the source of some of the most amazing amber, we were on a mission to find gorgeous amber jewelry at the market place. And we definitely succeeded!

We stumbled upon this church on accident at one end of the market and I mean how gorgeous is it?

Lagos de Montebello

Things to see in Chiapas, Mexico

Next up, I think probably one of my favorite spots we visited and you will see why!

We definitely got on those log boats for about $20 each (if I remember correctly). And it was worth every penny.

These photos don’t do justice! The water was so blue!

El Chiflon Falls

The stop to El Chiflon Falls was on the way back from the lakes. These falls were also supposed to be blue (more turquoise) but we found out that in the rainy season they are brownish because of the mud that slides in. If you want to see them turquois, then the dry season (December – May) is the way to go.

After the climb up to the falls, we had an opportunity to zipline!

Sumidero Canyon

The only reason we got to see the Canyon was because our original flight out of San Cristobal got cancelled which gave us an extra day in Chiapas. As annoying as that was, I didn’t want to waste the day and took another excursion 45 minutes drive from the city.

When you get to the canyon, you get on a boat and tour the waters for about an hour.

During the boat ride, we were able to see this waterfall. From far away it didn’t look like much but when we got closer it felt quite magical.

Our tour ended by seeing these pelicans chilling in the water. They seemed to be enjoying themselves!

Well this is the end of the list of places we saw in this region. There is definitely a lot more but in the five days we were there, this was all that we were able to do.

I don’t think I would have come to this part of Mexico if it hadn’t been for the Humanity First Women’s Mission. I’m so glad I took this opportunity because it was unforgettable experience!

So…have I convinced you to visit Chiapas?
