National Cherry Blossom Festival – Washington D.C.

Hello all, I hope your March was spectacular, mine sure was! As you probably know I was off exploring and visiting family in Pakistan. It was a wonderful trip but now I am back and ready to go back to our regularly scheduled program. 😉

I know that it probably would have made sense to come back and post about Pakistan; however, I am in the middle of organizing all the photos so you will have to wait a little while longer.Cherry Blossom Festival DC

When I got back on Sunday morning, I was struggling with major jet lag. And the best way I knew how to tackle it was to avoid sleeping at 3 pm and go out to explore and stay awake! So the following day, I went to check out the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington D.C. with my friend, A.Cherry Blossom Festival DC Cherry Blossom Festival DC

Lucky for me the blossoms had reached their peak a couple of days before I landed so I got to see them in all their glory. I did however hear that nearly 50% of the blossoms had died due to the cold weather and snowfall the week before but when I got there, it still looked amazing and I took a lot of pictures!Cherry Blossom Festival DC Cherry Blossom Festival DC Cherry Blossom Festival DC Cherry Blossom Festival DC Cherry Blossom Festival DC Cherry Blossom Festival DC

Most of the cherry blossoms were around the Tidal Basin near the Jefferson Memorial. We pretty much stayed in this area the whole time and I got to check out the memorial as well this time. As many times I have been to D.C. the last few months, I have never made it to this particular memorial. I don’t know why…lol.Jefferson Memorial It’s in quite the location!Jefferson Memorial Jefferson Memorial Jefferson Memorial Jefferson Memorial

On our way back from circling the Tidal Basin and checking out the Jefferson Memorial, we sat and enjoyed the sunset views from everywhere.Cherry Blossom Festival DC Cherry Blossom Festival DC Cherry Blossom Festival DC

Besides getting to view the cherry blossoms, there are several events that also happen throughout the month of April like the Blossom Kite Festival, a parade and Fireworks Festival. Cherry Blossom Festival DC

  1. Certainly a good way to beat jetlag 😉 I love cherry blossoms! And you captured them wonderfully!

  2. Hello,
Beautiful pictures 🙂 I’ve always wanted to go to the Cherry Blossom festival in DC but I have not made it there yet. Hopefully next year I’ll be able to go. DC is such a great city with so many things to do. I can’t wait to visit again when I’m in the area this summer. I’ve never seen the Jefferson Memorial either so I’ll have to check that out. Great post!

  3. Beautiful pictures! I the flowers would hurry up and blossom here, they seem to be stuck halfway!

  4. Wow those are some great shots! I love cherry blossoms (or blossoms of any kind) and every year I am on the hunt for them 😀
