My first recipe, yay! Let’s see if I can manage to write out the measurements and instructions properly because I usually end up putting a little bit of this and a little bit of that and just eye ball things when I’m cooking. I’m going to share this very simple recipe because it was one of the first things I learned to make as a kid, when I was still a FOB (fresh off the boat). I didn’t grow up eating cereal or pop tarts or luncheables etc. I ate paratha egg rolls and dhaal chaval (rice and lentils). I even took that stuff to school. Our final stop on this reunion weekend was Dearborn. My friend had been talking about an amazing place to get kababs from and it only seem fit that we go! So this place is located in a butcher shop. It’s called Dearborn Meat Market. Basically, they sell meat in the front and then in the back there is a small room in which they BBQ kababs! So you know you’re getting fresh ingredients! Being amateurs, we ordered like 2 or 3 orders. But apparently that’s not enough, even for three people. I don’t remember how many orders we got, but here is a picture of all the kababs! And of course, there is also hummus and tabouleh! Yea…it was pretty great. Continuing with my incredible friend’s reunion weekend, our next trip was into Detroit! As you will continue to scroll down, you will see that we started off our Detroit tour by eating. Well, we walked around first to work up an appetite. We started at Eastern Market which is a huge place full of food, restaurants, art and culture. There are so may different areas here. And since it was spring time, there were flowers everywhere. We were also on a mission to find a jasmine plant for my friend who had been trying to find it for ages. She settled on an herb plant instead (because jasmine was no where to be found, even in all the flowers!) After walking around for a bit we ran into some food trucks. So, of course we had to stop! Yesterday, I went to the Taste of Chicago and it felt necessary to share my experience with you this morning rather than Monday morning in case someone out there is debating whether they should go or not and are dying to know what I thought about it. For those that don’t know, It’s a food festival where various local restaurants and food vendors set up booths so people can come and sample some of their popular dishes. Basically, a foodie’s heaven! How it works is, once you are in, you buy tickets at the gate which ends up being your “money” to purchase the food. For 12 tickets it’s $8.50 which I thought was pretty reasonable. The cool thing is that most of the vendors had sample size portions for 3-5 tickets so you can try more than one place and not feeling like you are going to explode. I went with a friend so…

*This post contains affiliate links* Now on to the things I did in Dubai! My first post is about the iconic Burj Al Arab hotel that Dubai is so famous for. It sits in the Persian Gulf on a man-made island in the shape of a sail. The idea behind it was to have an icon that Dubai would be known for much like Eiffel Tower in Paris or the Statue of Liberty in New York City. The structure was designed by Tom Wright and completed in 1999 just in time for the millennium celebrations. The interior was designed by Khuan Chew and is a fusion of contemporary and classical design. When you enter this self proclaimed seven star hotel, you find yourself in a sea of vibrant colors and shapes. Clicking on them will not cost you anything.* My NOLA adventures continued the next day with starting the morning off by getting more beignets from another place I had researched called Cafe Beignet. And let me tell you, these were so good! They were light and airy and fluffy just the way I like them. So glad we found this place otherwise I would have left NOLA feeling incomplete. Then, we headed back to the Garden District via the streetcar. The ride was enjoyable and it felt like we got a tour of the whole area because we saw all the beautiful mansions that the district is known for. These magnificent Greek Revival and Victorian style homes were laid out in 1832 by Barthelemy Lafron after the Louisiana Purchase. We got off by Audubon Park to take a walk and look around. Mexican food is one of my favorite type of cuisines and I have it any chance I get. This time I’m taking you to Los Sanchez Restaurant located in Garden Grove, California. First and foremost I have to point out the staff here is REALLY friendly! They are so nice and answer any questions you have without being annoyed! Secondly, you better come here with an empty stomach because the portion sizes are huge! We came to have a very late lunch, around 3 pm so you can imagine we were quite hungry.
